My husband and I did a redo on our laundry room this year and afterward, I decided to go on a mission on attacking the other areas in my home that gave me stress and were super disorganized/cluttered. I am all about making our spaces more functional for our family as life gets busier with our kids getting older. On a Saturday, we didn’t have any plans and it had been on my mind to reorganize and re-do our pantry. There was so much stuff and food cluttering our pantry that it was making me super anxious and frustrated. Our pantry is a walk-in and is under our stairs so it’s quite large. It sounds nice, but I’ve realized you have to be careful with large spaces because it can just be more temptation to fill it with stuff!
I am all about being real so here is a picture of BEFORE:
My method when an area is super cluttered is to just pull EVERYTHING away from that room or area. I am not sure my husband Paul loves my methods but he’s learned to just let me do my thing. Let the clearing out begin!
But then our kitchen looked like this:
It was unbelievable to imagine this was all in my pantry! And we even had stuff in our dining room. Again, I am just keeping it real here! I didn’t want to spend a lot of money so my daughter and I went to Walmart and bought a few things to help us stay organized. She and I actually had a great time planning it all out. Keeping in mind distractions and eating meals, it took about 2 days to complete this project and below is the result!
We keep our outdoor/non-breakable dishes in a tin all together.
We got this large popcorn bin from Dollar Tree and we keep a stock of candy and popcorn ready for movie nights! And if you look closely, there are open boxes from unidentified individuals that couldn’t wait for movie night. The struggle is real. LOL.
I don’t have a lot of cabinets in my kitchen so all of the appliances are on the bottom shelf in the pantry.
A fun little side project was to re-do my spice cabinet in the kitchen. Now, I generally only buy spices in the bulk section of the grocery store because it is so much cheaper and I don’t waste anything. So I bought these cute little spice jars/shelf to keep my spices in.
I can’t tell you enough how decluttering and reorganizing has helped our family with making/prepping meals, not wasting food, knowing what we have in stock, and just overall reduced frustration!
How about you? Have you reorganized your space to make it more functional? Any tips you learned along the way?
