At the beginning of each school year, I get motivated to give my kids the best nutritional lunches with minimally processed and low sugar foods and to top it off I imagine I will also write cute notes in them. And we will make the lunches the night before to be extra prepared. Then, week 2 of school happens. Anyone with me? As the kids got older and more active, making lunches starting getting a bit harder and food seems to disappear so much faster! If you have teenagers, you know what I mean. Below you will find some of my favorite items to put in lunches weekly as well as some products I use.
Our school district has strict guidelines on the size of our lunch boxes, so I was struggling to find something that fit. These lunch cubes fit perfectly! And I got them on clearance at Office Depot right after school started! Score!
Chobani Kids Yogurt Tubes
I LOVE these yogurt tubes. I use these in our kid’s lunches and they are great for a quick snack.
Apple & Eve Fruitables Juice Box
This is my favorite drink to send in the kids lunches. It is only 6.75 oz so it limits the amount of sugar and calories.
Shamrock Farms Rockin’ Protein Builder
I buy these for my teenage son who plays football. Most chocolate milk and protein shakes are loaded with sugar. This one only has 6g of sugar! I always keep a few in the fridge for after practice. They are pricey, so I only buy a few at a time.
Small tupperware (1/2 cup) storage containers
I love using these for my kids lunches! I use them for ranch and pizza sauce mostly. We definitely use them for other things around the house too! Ziploc, Rubbermaid, and generic brands all carry these sizes.
I really love RTIC products. Our school district has strict guidelines on what size their lunch kits can be, so RTIC had the perfect one for us. They have frequent sales on their products and cost a lot less than other popular expensive brands. The ice pack from RTIC remains ice cold when my kids return home from school. The lunch container works great and will fit quite a bit of food. The bottom compartments can be removed it needed. My 7 year old has no issue using this! The only downside is that they have to be hand washed.
