Through the years, I have really been thinking on what it means to cook a meal with my own hands either by myself or with others and sit down at a table with family and/or friends. I discovered that cooking a meal and eating isn’t just about the food or getting people fed. It is about intentionally making the time to sit with those we love, connect, laugh, tell stories, make jokes, sometimes argue (HA!), as we enjoy a meal together. I am sure you have experienced one or all of the above having a meal with family or friends. It can be challenging to make the time to do this consistently, so this is where I want to help!
I have had my fair share of my family mealtimes consisting of rushing, whining, fighting, crinkled noses at the meal I prepared, etc. Sometimes I am the one pouting, moody, and wanting to go eat in my bedroom alone! Some days my heart just isn’t in it! Some days we hit the drive-thru or a restaurant because we just need a break! It is imperfect progress for sure, however, pushing past the challenges is SO worth it. My kids now look forward to sitting at the table together! We still have off days, but who doesn’t? The reality is that most families today can’t all sit at the family table 7 days a week and eat together (If you can, then I applaud you!). You may feel hopeless when it comes to preparing a meal and actually sitting at the table together. You may feel tired, unmotivated, or feel like you have no time. Maybe you just need ideas for new recipes or don’t feel confident in the kitchen. I totally get it! Life seems busier than ever before and it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the “to do’s” of each day. I have seen and talked to many people who are stressed out when it comes to planning and/or cooking meals.
God put it strongly on my heart to use my passion and love of cooking along with my struggles, failures, and successes to launch Family Table Thyme and reach out to others with the hope to help you and your family/friends have time together at the table while also eating a tasty meal!
